Our Approach

We are in the midst of the UN International Decade for People of African Descent. This milestone serves as a reminder that the struggle for our humanity and survival continues. My approach to addressing the persistent challenges facing Black people globally is centered on “restoring heritage knowledge” and “re-building community capacity” to ensure that we continue to solve our own problems. The future can be found in our remarkable past that is evidenced in the great pyramids of Kemet (Egypt) and the Sudan and many other cultural treasures that confirm Africa as the cradle of human civilization.

Our Impact

The dictionary defines the word “Impact” as “having a strong effect on someone or something. To touch, change, alter, modify or shape through direct or indirect action or influence.” Dr. Joyce King’s impact can be traced back to 1965 when she arrived at Stanford University as an undergraduate student. Her education, research, writing, teaching, training and leadership have been grounded in the concept she authored of “dysconscious racism” which refers to the uncritical perceptions, attitudes, beliefs and assumptions held by teachers and others that perpetuate inequity in education and society. This concept drives all of Dr. King’s scholarship, programs, partnerships and activities to deliver impact that is both measurable and most importantly sustainable.
